So...you turn the lights off. But you are using waay more power with the kitchen appliances. That doesn't make sense. I don't get this earth hour thing. Seems pointless to me.

XLR8 says... Per your caption, it's not an hour of energy silence (for that they'd have to turn off kitchen appliances, cash registers, etc)... it's just an hour of darkness.

XLR8 says... Plus, I notice that's an incandescent lightbulb... instead of turning it off, how about swapping it to a compact fluorescent? Jason's Deli is all hype and no meaningful action.

Ken says... I understand, but how does darkness help? I just don't get it. Right...that is what I said! Change the bulb. Instead of having "dark hour" at my house, I just changed all the bulbs to compact flourescents.
